Family Homestay
A fundamental part of the Spanish taught by the Eco-Escuela
Spanish School is influenced by the time spent staying with
your host family, where you will be treated as part of the
family.
Living with a local family is a very important part of the
program. "Peténeros" are friendly, generous
and welcoming to visitors. They enjoy sharing jokes and stories
about their lives and about the region. In addition to daily
language interaction outside the classroom, homestays also
provide
a unique opportunity to participate in the lives and customs
of the Petén.
Each family is carefully selected according to
their interest in conserving the environment and whether
they have good relationships
within the community itself. Most have worked with
the school for a number of years and all homes are located
within a short walking distance from the school.
Accommodations are
modest,
but comfortable. Students have their own private room with
the necessary comforts and conveniences, enabling you to
enjoy and make
the most of your time with the family. Students usually share
bathroom and shower facilities with the family and students
are
provided with three meals a day (Including Sunday). Vegetarian
meals are available at your request. Laundry
services are available for an additional modest cost.
Living arrangements for couples, friends
and
families can also be accommodated.
