Volunteer Work and Community Projects

Eco-Escuela Spanish School offers its students
a remarkable opportunity to get involved in the community
in various activities that promote development in the area.
Your volunteer efforts will truly immerse you in different
local
activities.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
A number of our students
volunteer their services to local
community projects. Interested students can participate in
and support the economic, social and cultural development process in both
the urban
and rural populations by donating their services in the areas
of ecology and the environment, health, education, religion,
and children´s issues.
Sacbaquecan
Interpretative Trail
This municipality of land was given to Eco-Escuela in order to manage and
protect as a community reserve for future generations. The Eco-Escuela School
invests a percentage of its incomes to provide trail maintenance and land control.
The
area is designed for the observation of lumber-producing trees (mahogany and
Spanish cedar) and non-lumber trees (Chico-zapote, allspice, xate), fruit-bearing
trees and other species native to region. Learn about forest culture. Photo
Ixcalap Reforestation Area
Support
this communities deforestation project by cleaning
and creating trails and planting seeds and transplants. Accompanied by
locals, learn first hand about medicinal plants, trees and fruit from
this region. Photo
Special Volunteer Work
When
students have a high level of Spanish and a minimum of four
weeks of classes, it is possible to coordinate activities affording
the student opportunities to visit healers, midwives and local
organizations who could benefit from your personal time and
commitment.
English
Classes
Volunteers
can work at the elementary,
junior high, or high school level, or work with groups
of adults that have a special interest in learning English. If volunteers have a TESL
degree or an equivalent title, there is an opportunity
to get paid a stipend for your teaching.
In addition to providing jobs for more
than 56 families, our school School dedicates
5% of its
earnings, every fiscal period, to the support of community
projects benefiting the general population including:
- Economic support and materials to needy children
at
the beginning of each school year
- Remodeling of the Eduardo Fión Mixed Urban
School
- Reconstruction of a playground at the 29 de Agosto
School
- An interactive, ecological childerens library
